The eagle has been used for heraldic at the end of the
Middle Ages by a number of noble families in Albania and became the symbol of
the Albanians. Kastrioti's coat of arms, representing a two-headed eagle on a

that resulted in brief independence of certain regions of Albania from 1443 to
1478 the two-headed eagle on the flag is taken from the flag of the Byzantine
Empire.
The symbol of the double-headed eagle was re-used by
Albanian nationalists during the late 19th and early 20th century as a symbol
of their campaign for the independence of their country from the Ottoman
Empire. On November 28, 1912, the Declaration of Albanian independence was
proclaimed in Vlora and the flag raised by Ismail Qemal, was adopted as a
symbol of the new nation.
The Albanian flag has gone through a number of changes over
the years, various schemes have changed it. During the reign of King Zog, a
crown was added to the flag and was replaced by two beams during the Italian
occupation of Albania. After World War II, the communist governmet of Albania
has added a gold five-pointed star, who was abducted April 7, 1992, after the persisting
Communist government in Albania collapsed.
